The Client

Bauer Media Group is one of the world’s largest privately-owned media business with media assets all over the globe. It owns more than 600 magazines, over 400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations, as well as print shops, postal, distribution and marketing services.

Founded in Hamburg in 1875, the Bauer Media Group reaches 200 million consumers worldwide, operates in 14 countries and has 15,000 employees.

The Challenge

Bauer Media had begun their journey to the cloud and were embarking on a major shake-up of their digital estate. They were looking to migrate over 200 applications from on-premise data centres spread across the UK, Germany and Poland to the cloud.

The teams operate fairly autonomously across the three countries, and have different reporting lines.

They had aggressive timescales for the completion of the migration and this required a cloud environment that was capable of supporting the application migration.

The Solution

In order to meet these timescales, they enlisted the help of Epitechnic to enhance and prepare their AWS Landing Zone for the migrations. This would enable them to accelerate their digital transformation.

The changes implemented by Epitechnic included network connectivity – Direct Connect across two regions and three data centres, VPN failover and centralised network firewalls.

We also worked closely with internal stakeholders to build and promote a Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) so that Bauer can begin to transform their entire enterprise.

Epitechnic created a series of business processes that underpinned the CCoE and bought the three disparate teams together into a single operating model.

The Result

Epitechnic identified a number of areas of improvement to the cloud environment and operating model that have been implemented.

Epitechnic are now working with Bauer to complete the application migrations and further enhance their cloud environment.
